Tips for Security in the Home

- Have all valuables engraved with your name
- Fit windows with security grills
- Leave a light on at home or the radio on to make others think someone is home
- Install an automatic timer to turn lights on or off
- Install movement activated sensor lights around the premise so no one can lurk in the dark
- Fit External Doors with a deadlock or dead bolt (be sure to leave the key in the door in case of emergency exit)
- Utilise your peephole at all times
- Install a monitored alarm and ensure your back up battery is services at least once every 2 years
- If going away, have a trusted friend, neighbour or family member collect your mail
- If having goods delivered to your premise whilst you are at work, ensure it is left somewhere where it cannot be seen. A parcel at the door step indicates no one is home.
- Funeral and Wedding notices in the paper containing an address can be a sure signal in advising a burglar when you won’t be home.
- Ensure you answering machine does not provide evidence that you are away.
- Insure your belongings with contents insurance. Most insurance companies offer reduced premiums for people with back to base monitored alarm systems
